A word about mud
If you come to our place during the spring thaw or the
fall rains, you WILL see a lot of mud. The horses will be covered with
mud, their lower legs and hooves caked with mud. I have often been
embarrassed when a potential boarder comes to view our site during these times,
but I shouldn't be. What that should tell the potential boarder is that we
value our horses' health and well-being above the condition and appearance of
our pastures. We would rather sacrifice our pastures than our horses.
Pastures are surprisingly resilient. They do recover. So if you look
at a barn during these seasons and there is no mud, be aware that your horse
will probably be kept in a stall during the periods when damage to the pastures
could occur.
