Practices

Required of new horses

• Within one year before arrival - negative Coggins test (what is "Coggins" and why do I have to have it? See also "My Favorites Links for more information.
• Within one year before arrival, proper immunizations
• Within one week before arrival, worming
• Within two weeks before arrival, health certificate from vet

Fed twice per day

• Ample hay
• Weight watched and regulated with grain

 

Always available

We just like this picture!• Fresh Water (heated in Winter)
• Mineral Salt
• Regular Salt

 

Stall cleaning

• Cleaned at least once each day
• Stripping done as necessary
• Bed with straw or shavings

Parasite control

• Administered by Horse Around Acres twice per year - ~May and November
• Cost passed onto boarder
• Some groups also protected by pasture rotation

Peaceful pasture settings

Regularly scheduled

• Farrier (every 6 to 8 weeks)
• Shots (once per year), tetanus and rabies mandatory
